RAMANMALAI IRON ORE MINE
Ramanmalai Iron Ore Mine of M/s. VESCO is located at a distance of 11 Kms. from Sandur town M.L. No: 2296, Area is 51 Ha.
Neqrest railway station is Yeshwanthananagar, at a distance of 11 KM. there is two way approach road to the mine from Sandur and
from Ramgad village.
The area is hilly terrain running NW -SE direction the hill range slopes in the east and west directions. The iron ore formation
is covered by laterite with Iron Ore capping about 10 km thick. The ore deposit is formed by the leaching action on the
metavolcanies and BHQs, The strike of the ore formation is N 300 W-S 300 E, dipping 50-55 due NE. Entire area has been explored
by GSI, FOMENTO with core drilling trenching and test pitting. The ore deposit is estimated to be about 25.87 million tonnes of
proved, probable and possible category. Our cut-off grade is 60% Fe. The saleable ore analyses to have Fe Average Grade 63%,
SiO2 -1.5 to 3, AI2O3 = 1.5 to 3.5 and P = 0.035 to 0.06.
Mining operation started in the year 2002. Deep hole drilling and heavy earth moving machineries are deployed. So far 8 benches
have been opened each having 7 Mtr. Height and 12 Mtr. Width. Top bench is of over burden laterite and the lower benches of
lumpy fines ore. Over burden dump is at a distance 1.0 Km from the mining pit, processing is done by power screen and gravity
plant, sub grade ROM is stacked separately for future screening. M.L. area been thoroughly prospected and extensive exploration
work is being done by an exploration agency (FOMENTO) with the help of Core drills. 32 bore holes are drilled in addition to
those drilled by G.S.I. data, test pits and adits are also taken for exploration. M.L. area is 51 Ha (126 Acres).
