GUA IRON ORE MINE
Gua is a census town in Pashchimi Singhbhum district in the Indian state of Jharkhand.
It is a mining township. The mines are operated by the Steel Authority of India Limited and are linked to IISCO at Burnpur.
Gua is located at 22.2° N 85.38° E. It has an average elevation of 435 metres (1427 feet).
Gua Iron Ore Mine is located in the West Singhbhum district of Jharkhand and at a distance of 267 km from the Burnpur Works and 267 km of Tatangar. Gua is a mechanised mine with reserves of about 182 million tonnes of iron ore, mostly hematite. It is owned by Steel Authority Of India Ltd. The mine was mechanised as early as 1958 and it remains the main supplier to Burnpur. Mechanised opencast mining is carried out with the help of excavators and dumpers and the ore is then beneficiated in the Ore Handling Plant.
Lump production is 0.8 million tonnes and the rest is fines. The lump ore is transported to Burnpur by the Railways.
Gua mines has one of the richest iron ore deposits in Asia. Mining activities have been going on seven decades in the area. Annual production capacity is 2.4 million tonnes ROM ore. At present, production of iron ore in Gua is about 8 lakh tonne per annum.
