Geology & Reserves
The lease area is a part of milliolitic limestone belt of Saurashtra Region, having wide spread exposure of limestone. The milliolitic limestone of Pleistocene to sub age in our lease area lies unconformable over basaltic trap rock of Eocene to upper cretaceous age, which is also oldest basement rock exposed in the area.
The limestone formation is practically horizontal bedded. The limestone generally soft, porous and friable in nature but also compact, hard and bouldary at many places. The thickness of limestone is around 15 meters. The upper layer of limestone occurring chemical grade limestone, which is further underlain by Cement / marginal grade limestone. There is no overburden and topsoil at all in the lease area as it is exposed with basalt trap rock at higher horizons and limestone at middle to lower horizons.
Based on the approved mining scheme reserves of Chemical Grade Limestone and annual capacity of 12800 Tons of Chemical Grade Limestone, the anticipated life of the mine will be 49 years. The company is proposing for small-scale manual surface mining in the said mine. Excavation for chemical grade limestone will be done up to 4 to 7 mtrs. in depth by making benches of of maximum 3 mtrs. height. For this, occasionally drilling will be done by using small portable air compressor with drill machine and blasting will be done by using ANFO & slurry explosives. Excavated R.O.M. will be broken for required size i.e. 50 mm to 100 mm manually. The sized limestone will be loaded manually into trucks and will be dispatched to lessee’s Soda Ash Plant at Porbandar.
Use of Mineral
Limestone is basic raw material for the manufacture of Soda Ash. The company’s Soda Ash plant is located in Porbandar and entire production of sized limestone will be used for captive consumption for manufacturing of Soda Ash.
